Privy Journal is developed by Dev Pixels Studio LLC, 312 W 2nd St, Unit #A2733, Casper, WY 82601, USA. You can reach us at info@privyjournal.app or +1 (307) 785-6988 with any question about this policy or your data.
Creating a Privy Journal account is required to use the app. We use Supabase as our authentication provider. Depending on how you sign up, we (via Supabase) store:
This account layer exists solely to let you use the app and, if you choose, sync your data across devices. It does not store your journal content.
Everything you write, every AI conversation, mood tags, and personal notes are stored locally on your device in a private app database. By default, none of it is transmitted anywhere โ not to Privy Journal, not to any third party.
When you talk with your AI companion or ask the app to help write an entry, that text is processed by a language model file downloaded to and run entirely on your phone. Depending on the "Privy Brain" you choose in Settings, this is one of the following open-weight models:
| Tier | Model |
|---|---|
| Privy Lighter | Gemma 3 1B (Google) |
| Privy Balance | SmolLM2-1.7B (Hugging Face) |
| Privy Smart | Gemma 3n E2B (Google) |
None of these models are cloud services โ the app downloads the model file once, then every chat, entry, and mood/theme analysis afterward happens using your phone's own processor. Your journal text never leaves your device for this purpose, under any circumstances.
The one time your device does contact an outside server for AI purposes is to download the model file itself, hosted on Hugging Face. This is a one-way download of a public model file โ no journal content or personal data is sent as part of it.
If you turn on "Back up automatically" or use "Export to Google Drive," the app requests Google's narrowest Drive permission, drive.file โ which only ever lets it see and write to the single backup file it itself created. It cannot see, list, or touch anything else in your Google Drive. This feature is off by default.
If you turn on "Add general location" in Settings, the app attaches a rough GPS coordinate (no place name) to entries you create afterward. This uses your device's last-known GPS fix only โ never network-based location, never reverse geocoding into an address, and the coordinate is stored locally like the rest of your entry. This is off by default and never transmitted anywhere.
Morning and evening writing reminders are scheduled entirely on-device using Android's notification system. No reminder content or schedule is sent to us.
Subscriptions are billed through Google Play. We never see or store your payment card details โ that's handled entirely by Google Play Billing under Google's own privacy policy.
The only information that reaches our servers (via Supabase) is your account identity โ email/name and authentication tokens โ used exclusively to:
You are in control of your data at all times:
Privy Journal is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under that age. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
| Service | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Supabase | Account authentication and session management |
| Google (Sign-In & Drive) | Optional sign-in and optional, restricted-scope backup |
| Hugging Face | Hosting the downloadable, on-device AI model files |
| Google Play Billing | Subscription payment processing |
Each operates under its own privacy policy for the limited data described above.
If we make a material change to how Privy Journal handles data, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, for significant changes, notify you in the app.
